Margeaux Bucher has been a painter and artist for over 15 years. Self-taught in a wide variety of mediums, including acrylic, watercolor, textiles and cement, she has created several distinct bodies of work. Her love of the vibrant, fresh colors created in the salt ponds and their dual nature: both intensely organic and man-made, piqued her curiosity and first drew her to them for subject matter.

Her background in the biological sciences informs her immense awe over the intense reds, greens and yellows of the salt beds; colored only "naturally" by those few organisms that can survive in the harsh concentrated saltwater produce during the evaporation process.

"I am deeply fascinated by the blending of natural and man-made features in landscapes. The shocking reality of the colors allows me to create a mischievously deceptive painting. To those who are unfamiliar with the ponds, the paintings appear abstract... yet in truth they represent the ponds quite accurately."

Margeaux is involved in multiple conservation-related projects and hopes to raise awareness of the Salt Ponds, which are soon to be slowly decommissioned. She favors the efforts to have them returned to wetlands, which are now all too scarce in the San Francisco Bay, and hopes to see them avoid becoming a possible future site for condos.

She has exhibited as a part of Art Span's Open Studios in 2008 and 2009 as well as having participated in Art Blast, a pop-up street exhibit in the Mission. The Salt Pond Series has been shown up and down the SF Peninsula, most recently at the San Francisco Conventions and Visitor's Bureau's 6-month exhibition. Her artwork has also been shown in various small businesses in her hometown of San Mateo and in San Francisco. The line of Eco-friendly leather jewelry she has designed is coming soon to an Etsy Store.
